145 (1) pp. SIGNED/INSCRIBED in ink in presentation by the publisher to Ed Grabhorn on a front free endpaper: "To my good friend Ed / Christmas 1959, with all good wishes / Glen". Translated, with Introduction and Notes by Charles N. Rudkin. Illustrated, including a frontispiece portrait of Jean Francois Galaup De La Perouse, and a two page period map of the American North Coast. Early California Travels Series XLVI. Edition limited to 350 un-numbered copies. Biographical Notes. Index. Gray cloth. 5 1/4" x 7 1/2". Laperouse set sail in two frigates from Brest in 1785. He sent his writings back to France while en route via other ships. He made landfalls at Concepcion, Chile, Easter Island, Lituya Bay (Alaska) and Monterey, among others. He left Botany Bay (Austrailia) in 1788 and was never seen again. Traces of his wreckage were found by a British India expedition in 1826, inclusing an anchor, and ships guns with serial numbers.
