CHARLES WYNDHAM AUTOGRAPH Vintage, album leaf, 7 1/4" x 4 3/4" Signed and inscribed: "Yours truly / Charles Wyndham / Jan 10 . 82" Condition: very good Charles Wyndham (born Charles Culverwell) was an English actor-manager. He volunteered to become brigade surgeon in the Union Army during the Civil War and was present at the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. Late 1864 he resigned his contract with the Army and returned to the stage. He established a reputation on both sides of the Atlantic as a light comedian. On one occasion he appeared in New York with John Wilkes Booth (who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln at the Ford Theatre, in Washington, D.C., April 14, 1865.)
