About this Item
This is an autographed letter, not a book. The American author, Bret Harte (1836-1902), wrote extensively of pioneer life in California, with the short story "Luck of the Roaring Camp" his most often remembered. In this letter of May 16th, 1867, he mentions the corrected copy of "Gabriel Conroy" to be published in England. This was Harte's only attempt at the long novel (Bibliography of American Literature lists the publication date as May 27, 1876). Closing & signature are on the verso. Fold lines, marginal chip upper left, otherwise very good. Seller Inventory # A00167
