Gray covers 1/4 bound in green Morocco with gilt ruling are mostly clean, with inked illustration on cover. Corners are sharp. Spine has gilt text and is bright with firm ends. Binding is strong. End papers/ pastedowns show little to no sign of age or wear. Frontispiece is present, with intact tissue guard. Illustrations are bright and clear. Interior exhibits minimal signs of age and wear. Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks. Text block edges have deckle fore and foot edges, a small mark at head. See photos.** PS2023.1108** Unpaginated. 9.5 x 12 inches** First edition of this story by Guy Davenport (1927-2005) about the life of sculptor Henri Gaudier-Brzeska (1891-1915), with twelve drawings by Davenport and five reproductions of Gaudier pen and ink drawings. The title is adapted from Ezra Pound. In his Introduction to 50 Drawings (N.Y.: Dim Gray Bar Press, 1996), Davenport writes of The Bowmen, "There are printers and designers who see what I'm up to, and Leslie Miller's beautiful edition of The Bowmen of Shu is a perfect, and beautiful, example of realizing a text that is both writing and drawing."** One of 115 copies bound in quarter morocco with printed Fabriano paper over boards out of a total edition of 125 copies.
