Although there are numerous hints along the way, only on the last page do we discover the identity of the humans possessed by Rennedee and Rommeler. They dismantle the moon Cardenio to build the Rankin Cube around the black hole/star binary, and beam the limitless energy back to Oria. On the trip to Earth, Hoken survives a supernova, and is saved in an encounter with the barbarian Grog by the Septadians, whose finger pattern determines their intelligence.
