Add to basket562pp, blue octavo cloth with illustrated endpapers, silver gilt depiction of airplane on front board though dulled, spine sunned, light cover wear, slight stain to top edge of page block, b/w plates present, slight front gutter exposure at title page, inscribed by Lindbergh "To Henry Hayes, with best wishes, Charles A. Lindbergh, Sept. 1953" with "Publication date is Sept 14th" penned at bottom of title page in Lindbergh's hand. One square inch newspaper clipping ghost on page 288-9, and another much smaller one on page 324-5. Clean interior, firm binding, no DJ. Born in 1918, Henry Hayes was a bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII, and fought with the coastal anti-sub squadron in England with the 93rd Bomb Group, 8th Air Force as a lieutenant.Famously and miraculously surviving a B-24 crash at Dunkswell in 1943, he went on to serve asChairman of the Bay Area Safety Committee for the Airline Pilots Association after the war.
