Formerly the property of Leila Berg, the British children s author who wrote the "Nippers" series in the 1960 s as a realistic and gritty alternative to Enid Blyton. She was a close friend of J L Carr who has written a 6-line inscription: Many thanks for all the help you/ gave me over the Red Windcheater/ & for the pleasure you will give/ innumerable children who read & have/ red to them stories they can really/ understand.
