Poetry collection by Cecil Daniel Smith, a Methodist minister in Ohio who served as an Army chaplain of the 322nd Machine Gun Battalion and the 329th Infantry in WWI France. Smith later taught religion at Ohio Northern University. Smith's poems are meditative, religious, autobiographical, and historical. A number of poems here are ekphrasic (in the ut pintura poesis tradition), engaging and commenting on paintings and objects of sacred art, which are reproduced in color or duo-tone plates.
