First American Edition in dust jacket. This is poet Charles Malam s copy, with his ownership inscription ("Charles & Muriel Malam / Astoria / September 1938") on the front free endpaper. Charles Frederick Malam was born in South Ryegate, Vermont, on August 18, 1906. After attending St. Johnsbury Academy, Charles Malam entered Middlebury College in 1924 and graduated in 1928. Afterwards, he was elected as an American Rhodes Scholar to Oxford, from 1929 to 1931. In 1932 Malam began his work with the New York City Board of Transportation which would last until his retirement in 1966. He was the author of "Slow Smoke," "Wagon Weather," "City Keep," "Spring Plowing," and "Upper Pasture." Malam died in April, 1981.
