Near-fine with a touch of dustiness to page edges, in a very good dust jacket with some wear at the corners and a half-inch chip at the top of the spine. INSCRIBED BY BURN in the year of publication on the flyleaf. Burn led a troop of army commandos as part of what has been described as the greatest raid of all time, Operation Chariot, against the vital Nazi dry dock and submarine base at Saint Nazaire in 1942. He was captured by the Nazis and spent several years as a POW. He subsequently had an illustrious career as a foreign correspondent, the author of many books and a prize-winning poet.
