About this Item
Octavo, unpaginated (about 20pp.). A very good copy in the publisher's stapled wrappers with French flaps. Age-toned along the extremities, as always, but a nice, clean example. A marvlous copy, SIGNED and lengthily INSCRIBED by Dawson on the first blank leaf: "Fielding Dawson Dec. 1955. Krazy Kat, written Oct. 1952, Black Mts. College. The Party, Written Feb. 1954 Heidelberg, Germany. For Bud Honey Jan. 1956." Dawson has laid out for Mr. Honey the timeline of his authorship of the contents. Dawson was an acolyte of Black Mountain College founder Jonathan Williams, a fact evidently shown here. While we don't know the identify of Bud Honey, there was a man by that name who served as a business manager for the "Mountain Goat" magazine of Sewanee University in their 1954 yearbook. The literary ties between Sewanee and Black Mountain College are well-known, so we presume this is likely the same Bud Honey. It's also worth noting that this copy emerged from a collectino which contained many volumes from Jonathan Williams's own library, and it may have been in his possession, as well. In any case, this first edition of "Krazy Kat" precedes the Black Sparrow Press edition by a decade and a half, and is considerably scarcer, especially signed. Seller Inventory # 10951
