Four volumes uniformly bound in polished calf with gold detailing and six compartments on the spin. Marbled endpapers and edges. The volumes span the years from 1793 to 1847. Inscribed by the author in volume 1 to Wm. Thompson Esq., Lord Mayor of London. William Thompson among other offices was Mayor of London 1828-29.The inscription ends with 'the author' with no actual Tooke signature, but handwriting matches that of Tooke samples. Each volume with a period library bookplate from Underley Hall. Each volume also with a Cawthorne and Co. booksellers stamp, Charing Cross.A very nice set and quite scarce with an author's inscription. Seller Inventory # 0821181
