First edition, first printing. Signed by D. T. Suzuki and inscribed to a former owner on the half-title page and dated in the year of publication. Bound in publisher's original green cloth ruled in blind with spine lettered in gilt. Very Good with spine panel faded, lettering rubbed and spine ends lightly frayed. Several marginal chips to pages. Foxing mainly confined to textblock edge, prelims and terminals. The third in a series of greatly influential essays by the Japanese scholar and author, who is credited with spreading Zen and Shin to a western audience through these essays and several other works.
