About this Item
A presentation copy to the Honourable John Hay, dated 8 November 1876, with the author's compliments. John Hay (1816 - 1892) was a New South Wales politician who emigrated from Scotland to Sydney (1838) and later became member and Speaker of the first Legislative Assembly. Hay was known as a strong opponent of tariffs on trade between NSW and Victoria. There are two handsome engraved armorial plates present, those of James Angas Johnson (noted South Australian pastoralist and accountant) and Charles R. J. Glover (a Lord Mayor of Adelaide, philanthropist, and noted book collector). A book seller's tab for Dymock's Book Arcade, George St. Sydney at the front paste down. 8vo, vi, 173 pp, Large fold out panoramic view plate ("The Harbour of Port Jackson & City of Sydney NSW"), fold out map, and fold out chart.
