Inscribed: To -----, Donald E. Westlake, on Title page. Book Condition: Some wear along bottom of book, especially to the bottom of the spine, Else Very Good. DJ Condition: Slight wear to bottom of DJ spine, else near fine. Description: Rare signed Westlake 1st edition of the comic novel where a bumbling mobster is assigned the task of locating a corpse buried in a suit lined with stolen mob money; turned into 1967 movie starring Sid Caesar and Robert Ryan. Soft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. An undated US paperback. The title was previously published by Penguin in 1966 and re-issued by Ballantine Books in 1973. Age tanning to pages and to inside of covers. Covers are showing signs of wear to the extremities. There is a crease across the top right-hand corner of the front cover and there are reading creases to the spine which also has a slight slant. The covers are generally grubby and there is some staining to the rear cover adjacent to the spine. SYNOPSIS: "First, they gave Charlie Brody a good, old-fashioned, gangland funeral. Then they sent Al Engel to dig up the body. Except someone beat him to it. Well, they didn't really need the body, just the suit with all the heroin in the lining. Naturally, the suit was gone, too. Browning around the edges of the insides of the covers and the pages are browned around the edges with a small pen mark to the title page but are otherwise clean and unmarked. First printing.
