Collection of poetry by Richard Burton. SIGNED & INSCRIBED by the author in black ink on half-title page in the month of publication: "To Katharine Hooker. The lady of the garden from her much-admired friend, the Author, October 1909". Copyright page notes: "Published October 1909". This copy also includes a laid-in 2-PAGE TYPED LETTER which is SIGNED in full by the author in black ink at conclusion. The letter, with the author's printed letterhead, is a single sheet folded to form four pages, dated Dec. 6th [presumably 1909], & is addressed to the same recipient as the author's inscription in the book (the recipient, Katharine Hooker has also signed the ffep in black ink). Katharine Putnam Hooker (1849-1935) was an American travel writer, philanthropist, and socialite. Title page printed in black & red. Printed in the USA. Bound in publisher's original grey drab boards with black lettering to front, backed by cream cloth spine with black lettering. No dustjacket. Slight handling wear, tips worn, otherwise a nice clean tight solid hardcover copy. 259pp. Uncommon first edition, scarce signed copy with letter by the author. RARE.
