Issued signed, and issued without jacket. New. Signature is on the second free endpaper, as "D. Handler", and box there is checked as "Official Representative" (for Lemony Snicket, though Handler, of course, IS in fact Snicket). Date stamped on same page, by publisher, "Nov 24 2017". Confusing, to be sure - but Handler handled signing in a seeming plethora of ways. He is playful in some of the variant details in the different printings of this otherwise identical edition (ISBN 0064407667, on the copyright page): the frontis in this example is different from the other one listed by us; the Alternate ISBN (at the bottom of rear cover) is also different for the two examples; and the signature page varies between them. How many other details might vary, and how often among the many printings - well, we haven't made a study of that. Maybe it means something. The Bad Beginning is the first of thirteen titles in the children's fiction series "A Series of Unfortunate Events" (now also a Netflix series, of course), about newly-orphaned Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire. Ships in a new, sturdy, protective box, of course; not a bag. L71.

About the Authors

Lemony Snicket had an unusual education, which may or may not explain his ability to evade capture. He is the author of the thirteen volumes in A Series of Unfortunate Events, several picture books, including The Dark, and the books collectively titled All the Wrong Questions.

Brett Helquist's celebrated art has graced books from the charming Bedtime for Bear, which he also wrote, to the New York Times-bestselling A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket to the glorious picture book adaptation of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol. He lives with his family in Brooklyn, New York.
