First Tauchnitz edition, first printing, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title, "To Mrs. Mason, with kindest regards A. C. Swinburne". Miranda Mason was the sister of Swinburne's friend Theodore Watts-Dunton (1832-1914) and the mother of Bertie Mason, whom the poet doted on in his later years. Swinburne's verse drama Atalanta in Calydon was first published in 1865. Todd & Bowden 3522a. Octavo. Original wrappers printed in black. Housed in a custom red clock slipcase and chemise. Bookplate of lawyer, businessman, and bibliophile Carroll Atwood Wilson (1887-1947) to front wrapper verso. Wrappers faintly rubbed, short split to foot of front joint, contents crisp and almost entirely unopened. A near-fine copy. Seller Inventory # 163577
