Anna Winand served as Wilfred Cartey's erstwhile traveling companion and confidant and official photographer. Winand's archive: 1). PHOTOGRAPHS and MEMORIBILIA: Approximately 30 photographs, including negatives, of Cartey, taken between 1967 and 1985 for publicity purposes, including dust jacket illustrations; 12 unpublished photos, with negatives, of Cartey family members taken in Trinidad; newspaper clippings articles regarding various publications and charges of slander Cartey brought against CCNY in 1969, tributes and programs for his funeral services in Trinidad and Harlem in 1992. 2). MANUSCRIPTS: Composed between 1961 and 1966, when teaching at Columbia University and the Universities of Vermont and Ghana, shortly after losing his eyesight. His acclaimed work, "Whispers from a Continent," remains a groundbreaking introduction to African literature. Cartey's close friend Anna Winand, associated with New York's International Center of Photography, photographed him over the course of several decades.
