First Editon (first printing). 4to. xxxii, 240pp. Brown cloth lettered and ruled in gold at the spine. The title page printed in black and red. This copy inscribed by one of the co-authors at the head of the front free endpaper ("J. F. C. with all best wishes from S. I. T."). From the library of historian and Byzantinologist Mark Phythian-Adams, with his armorial bookplate to the front pastedown. A very good copy in quite lightly toned and spotted dust wrapper, with half of the spine panel detached but present, and a further two inches of loss from the head of the spine. Uncommon.
