Limited signs of minor wear, book is clean and bright with unmarked text, free of stamps, firmly bound. Nice untorn dust jacket. -- "Always Me tells the remarkable story of Dickie Rock's rise to fame from his first performance as a boy soprano with the local choir in Cabra West, to playing the London Palladium and becoming a '60s sex symbol, blessed with a velvet voice that made the ladies swoon and the men envious. As lead singer of the legendary Miami Showband, Dickie and the lads packed out ballrooms the length and breadth of the country, dominating the Irish charts for most of the decade. The electric atmosphere of the ballrooms is re-created as he talks about performing in front of thousands of hysterical fans, the other showbands on the scene and the highs and lows of their rollercoaster lifestyle. When the ballrooms closed their doors, Dickie became an Irish Caberet King and remains one of Ireland's most loved entertainers to this day. In Always Me he reveals the many challenges he has faced over the years and the unbearable heartache of the family tragedies behind the success and fame. He also discloses some unforgettable highlights including an encounter with the Mob in New York, representing Ireland at the Eurovision in 1966, entertaining Martin 'The General' Cahill in his dressing-room and giving Cliff Richard a run for his money. Always Me is the most revealing insight ever into the man that triggered the women of Ireland to shout: "Spit on me, Dickie!"".
