Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 203 pages. Illustrated. Noted War-time Interrogator with British Intelligence, who at one time served with the German Army in German South-West Africa, and who later became Chief Officer of the War Crimes Investigation Unit. Alexander Scotland left Scotland for Africa as a young man. Having just missed the South African War, he settled into the grocery business at the town of Ramonsdrift on the border of German South-West Africa. It was there he learned German and made the acquaintance of a German officer of the local garrison. At the invitation of his friend, he served with the German Imperial Army from 1903-7. The knowledge he acquired there would form the basis of his espionage work during the following two world wars. He was arrested in 1914 by the Germans under suspicion of espionage and held in Windhoek for a year until it was liberated by the British. He then went to work as a spy on the Western Front, posing as an overseas German civilian-worker in Belgium. During the interwar, he toured Germany twice, earning an audience with Hitler in 1937. After war broke out again he was assigned with the B.E.F. In France, interrogating German P.O.W.s. He continued his duties from London after being evacuated at Dunkirk. The information he gathered was vital to the prosecution of several high-profile war criminals after the war. (#88).

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. The London Cage By Lt Col A.P. Scotland O.B.E. Publisher: London, Evans Brothers, 1957, First Edition. Very good hardback with jacket. No inscriptions, a little tanning to pages. Jacket is rubbed and chipped with minor marks and a closed tear to bottom edge. Amazingly the author, an Englishman, served in the German Army _ at the suggestion of the Germans themselves _ for the duration of the Hottentot rebellion, thereby gaining an intimate knowledge of the organisation and equipment of the German military machine. He grew to know, by close contact, the habits, language and mental outlook of the German soldier. This knowledge was the basis of his achievements in espionage, interrogation and undercover work in the two world wars. His reputation also led to a strange meeting with Adolf Hitler in 1937 at the house of a mutual friend. His career reached its zenith in 1947 when, as Chief Officer of the War Crimes Investigation Unit, he played such a decisive part in bringing Nazi war criminals to book. 203 pages with photos.
