A celebrated Old Testament apocryphon, the Ascension of Isaiah, is in its first part a narrative of the killing of the Prophet by Manasses, for his opposing the idolatry of the King of Judah. In the second part of the work both the ascension of Isaiah to the Seventh Sky and the final vision of the Coming of Christ are reported. This apocalypse was written originally in Greek, within a 2ndcentury Syrian Christian milieu, probably in Antioch. The author's perusal of older Judaic traditions about the life and martyrdom of the Prophet is also possible. Several parts of the text are available in Greek, Coptic, Latin and Old Bulgarian as well, but only in the Ethiopic version made between the 4th and the 7th century is the complete text of the work transmitted. The present concordance proves thus to be a useful tool in the philological and historical study of one of the most ancient products of early Christian literature. (Text in Ethiopian language)
