This new and exciting CD will enable children to actively engage with a wide range of authentic listening materials. It is based on the bestselling literacy series, Reading Explorers and covers the main aspects of literacy: narrative, non-fiction and poetry. Each audio file (30 per CD) is accompanied by a worksheet and listening tasks. The worksheets ensure that learners focus on the spoken word in a purposeful way and actively promotes the development of core listening skills: listening for gist and listening for information, through a task-orientated approach. This fantastic resource will captivate even the most reluctant learners.

Review:
We really enjoyed trying Reading Explorers Aloud! and the children in both our Year 3 classes were very motivated. It was instantly clear to see that several of the children do not listen at all as they had no idea of the answers to the questions. By the time we tried a second track, however, there was already an improvement and all the children were listening more carefully. The layout of the worksheet is very accessible and suitable for children of all abilities but the top half of my class would have liked more challenging questions or a few more of them. The advantage of fewer questions from my perspective though is that each activity only takes a few minutes and is therefore easy to fit into a busy day. The activities are definitely useful for developing children's listening skills and I wish I had been able to use this material earlier in the school year. I like the format with the teacher's page opposite the worksheet as it is helpful to have both on view together when you select the relevant parts for your group of children and there are enough ideas to allow one to select the most appropriate. The overall design of the book is attractive and appealing as well as helpful. --Anne Smith, Bignold Primary School and Nursery, Norwich, Norfolk.
