This beautifully illustrated anthology contains stories of many donkeys the majority of whom have been taken into care by The Donkey Sanctuary at its various sanctuaries throughout Europe, as well as some who have been cared for by their teams who work overseas. Each letter of the alphabet is covered and in each there are two parts the first part is about donkeys whose name begins with that letter and the second concerns donkey facts, people and places. We learn about Naughty Face, the donkey who started it all and his companion Angelina; the children who have benefited from the work of The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children & Donkeys, and lots of little known facts such as that a zeedonk is the offspring of a male zebra and female donkey. This delightful compilation will appeal to everyone who loves donkeys.

Review:
Packed full of fascinating facts and personal stories from The Donkey Sanctuary's founder. A great addition to your bookshelf. --Horse & Hound

The founder of the Donkey Sanctuary brings us stories of many of those her Europe-wide creation has saved... This book serves as a fitting tribute to its Yorkshire-born author, who completed it shortly before she died this year. After founding the Donkey Sanctuary in 1973, she extended her concern to overseas, enabling hundreds of thousands of working donkeys to receive veterinary and farriery treatment, and their owners to be given harness training and educational support. --The Equestrian

What a delightful book! This is a beautifully illustrated anthology which contains the stories and photographs of many donkeys. Each letter of the Alphabet is covered in 2 parts. The first part is about donkeys whose names begin with that letter, the second part is donkey facts, people and places. The author had led a fascinating life and founded the Donkey Sanctuary in 1973, as well as a trust for children with special educational needs, which gives them a chance to interact with the donkeys. From a child of 5 she has been drawn to donkeys and her life has revolved around them. This compilation would appeal to anyone who loves or has a soft spot for donkeys. It would also make a fabulous Christmas present. --Equi-Ads
About the Author:
Dr Svendsen MBE founded and registered The Donkey Sanctuary as a charity in 1973. Over 14,500 donkeys have been taken into care since then, and the Charity s work overseas has enabled hundreds and thousands of working donkeys in developing centres around the world being given free veterinary treatment. Dr Svendsen has written numerous books, including The Complete Book of the Donkey (Kenilworth Press, translated into German, Spanish and French). She now works on a part-time basis for her beloved donkeys.
