This medical volume is concerned with clinical aspects of geriatric psychiatry, with a particular emphasis on new developments in the dementias. There are three parts to the text, the first two of which are devoted to dementia. Section one tackles the molecular biology of Alzheimer's disease, risk factors for dementia, clinical genetics, prion diseases, and Lewy body and vascular dementia. Section two has chapters on drug treatments for the cognitive symptoms of dementia, residential care, forensic psychiatry and the ethics of assisted death in dementia. The final part considers antidepressants, ECT therapy, antipsychotics, and family therapy as options in the management of functional disorders in the elderly.
