In 1988 the Tate Gallery Liverpool opened in a warehouse on the Albert Dock, converted by St James Stirling. The Gallery was an immediate success, attracting more than 500,000 visitors each year and achieving national recognition for its exhibitions of modern art and exciting visitors' programmes. This souvenir guide celebrates the reopening of the Gallery, after major expansion in 1997, with an account of the architecture, highlights from the first phase of exhibitions, including Rachel Whitbread and Paula Rego, a plan of the new building and information on the forthcoming shows on Cubism and Dali.
