A new version of the Ibsen classic by one of the UK's leading playwrights. Halvard Solness, a middle-aged architect, has clawed his way to prominence. His single-minded focus on his job, however, has hardened him and prevented him from having any meaningful relationship. With the arrival of Hilda Wangel, a young woman who has idolized Solness for years, the fire of pride and arrogance is stoked and Solness is encouraged to make one final, fateful grand gesture. Ibsen's enthralling exploration of betrayal, guilt and sexual passion was first published in 1892. The Master Builder is a play that speaks ever more truthfully today about the terrible consequences of unbridled ambition and misplaced pride.
