A wonderfully readable book showing the five major mechanisms of the unconscious that condition our present behaviour and block the realization of our full potential. The five defence systems are described in a systematic fashion. Each description starts with real life examples to illustrate the concrete impact of these systems in our daily life. Then the emphasis is placed on the source events that explain why these systems were installed in the first place, again with numerous life stories to serve as references. Finally, we find a description of their limiting impact in all areas of our daily life, from the more fundamental areas to the more trivial (relationships, work, money, power, sexuality, the physical body, service, spiritual seeking, etc.), and the specific transformative inner work to be implemented. To conclude each segment, the author presents the positive characteristics of the structure when it has been consciously transformed. What remains are all the qualities that were acquired through this experience, minus the blockages. Each structure carries within itself a very positive potential for well-being, and for genuine, satisfying self-expression.
It then becomes very easy for us to recognize our own structures and those of the people around us. This knowledge paves the way for more precise and more efficient inner work, and is therefore a major springboard to the full, free and authentic expression of our inner self.
