About the Author:

C.O. Jones was born on December 29, 1891 in Muncie, Indiana. The orphaned son of a sharecropper, he moved from place to place and worked at a variety of jobs starting at an early age. Largely self-educated, he had a keen eye for detail, a devilish wit and a colorful voice, all of which are evident in his life story. C.O. lived until January 31, 1975. During his lifetime, he observed dramatic change in virtually every aspect of rural American life, from horsedrawn carriages to man's first steps on the moon. His story is presented here as a gesture of respect for the values and traditions of the past, and as an inspiration to future generations -- both those of the Jones family, and hopefully all Americans.
