Having grown up in Maine, Jeff Phillips moved to Chicago, IL in 2002 to pursue ambitions of becoming a method actor. In 2006 Jeff Phillips co-founded Three Leaves Productions with Daniel Mac Rae and set to work shooting a short film, Growing Out of Us, which Phillips co-wrote and acted in. They went on to shoot The Antimonk, Terra Incognita, and The Principles. They have also produced several plays in his old storefront apartment, The Manor, of which Phillips acted in dual roles as Walter Nordman and Jerry Thompson in Magnets and Paul in Division & Shame. Phillips and Mac Rae co-wrote The Drowning Exercises. The Manor eventually closed after it was shut down for not having a "performance license" during a suggested donation performance of The Drowning Exercises and the building's owners discovered their own zoning non-compliance for live/work spaces, leading to a spiral of odd challenges and the eventual dissolution of Three Leaves as a business. Jeff has also worked closely with filmmaker James N. Kienitz Wilkins, having acted in Nature Mature, Jeremy Goes to the Beach, and the upcoming Public Hearing. Phillips has been a regular contributor to the Seeding Meat publication series produced by XIII Pocket, a Chicago production group dedicated to original works, of which Phillips is a member of their artistic ensemble. He has also written for the Three Leaves publication, Bellows. He released his first book, Whiskey Pike in the summer of 2009 and his second book Turban Tan in the late fall of 2009. In August of 2010 he workshopped his play Bosto at the DCA Studio Theatre in Chicago as part of their Incubator Series for the development of new works. Jeff Phillips is an active member of the Chicago comedy group, Wood Sugars Comedy in writing, producing and performing for film, live sketch shows, and for their variety show podcast Inside the Barrel.
