This story has been written to identify who these people were in their life in badlands and on the plains of Eastern Montana by providing a cameo of their daily life. It proposes a study of the factors that led to the development of character and at the same time developing characters. The method of this analysis uses simple stories of incidents common to those who endured the hardships and challenges of that sometimes-austere environment. Who are these people and how did they get to be the way they are. This book was written for the purpose of encouraging others to write their own stories that can be shared with their family and the generations to follow as they travel along life's way. Sadly, history not documented is history lost. Every person is important. Every person has value. Every person has a story to tell. Let the pages of this book provide a springboard to the documentation of countless stories of precious lives not only on the prairie but also in the city and elsewhere. It is hoped that by the sharing of these Eastern Montana personal stories that they may spur interest in Eastern Montana towns and villages to encourage development of tourism, industry, and its history, talents and art. Perhaps this book will be instrumental in helping others who feel downtrodden to take a second look at their life, enter the battle and approach their obstacles with a tenacious "can do" attitude. Of course, some will read the book just for the sometimes-foolish stories of the portrayal of farm-ranch life and let it go at that. But to the serious reader, it is hoped they will analyze well beyond what is written because that is what eventually creates your character also. Realizing that it is OK to become a character while developing your own character.

About the Author:
Loraine Dennis Trollope, Montanan, was raised on a farm-ranch in Eastern Montana during the 1940'-1950's-1960's. He has seen firsthand the trials and tribulations of growing up on a dry land farm on the Northern Plains. Having experienced tough times filled with pathos, sadness, success, and with the sometimes exhilaration and foolishness of these experiences, he felt obligated to document these times to which we all could very well see returned in this new millennium. He was educated in the Wibaux County Public School system by teachers dedicated to helping students to learn the necessary lessons that would lead to their survival in a yet unknown society following WWII. Upon Graduation from high school, his only option was continued education at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. Having no scholarship assistance or money provided by his poor family, he bowed his neck and set out to grab the golden ring of success. Believing in the promise of a better life, he eventually found that there was no guarantee of wealth by just receiving a diploma representing his studies of chemistry and economics. No job offers resulted in interviews, letters of application, or from his tiny network during the recession of the early 1960's. His entry into business took the form of door-to-door sales in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. Hard work and determination learned from that Montana farm eventually brought dividends. He and his wife live in Des Moines, Iowa. Being retired, his interests continue to be in helping others who are in need of assistance by volunteering his time and talents, which have taken him to Central America and on disaster relief assignments throughout the country.
