Radar is notoriously tricky to operate and 'read' correctly for collision avoidance either with the land or with other vessels. But used by an informed operator it is an immensely valuable navigation tool - especially in poor visibility. GPS will tell you where you are, but it won't tell you if there's another boat in that spot! Rather than taking a theoretical, academic approach, this book is highly practical and hands on - complementing the radar owner's manual and explaining what the operator really needs to know when faced with actual situations at sea. Packed with illustrative photos, charts and radar screen shots, this book gives guidance from a real life, on-the-water perspective, and will enable readers to solve problems on the spot.

Review:

"Gives guidance on all aspects of radar and aims to enable navigators to solve problems with radar on the spot whilst at sea and to help avoid encountering any problems in the first place...Highly practical and hands-on reference guide which aims to complement the radar owner's manual....Really easy to follow, and very simply laid out in its format...The book does its best to simplify what can be a complex topic. Packed with illustrative photos, charts and radar screen shots, this book gives guidance from a real life, on the water perspective."--"Maritime Journal""" "Very useful...Diagrams are clear and the use of color makes the images bold and eye catching...Highly practical and hands-on...[A] good value."--"Nautical Magazine" "The author, Borje Wallin, [has] a 40-year career on the water and has used his experience to write several books on navigation and seamanship."--"Fishing News""" "This book is best read while using your radar, as it's very hands-on and guides you step by step, from setup to navigation and collision avoidance. It is both a useful tool for those getting to grips with radar and a reference book for solving problems on the water."--"Yachting Monthly" "A useful learning tool."--"Sailing Today"
