Here's the inside story of sailing's most comprehensive test of resources, technology, tactics, and ingenuity. Never before has an America's Cup syndicate put such an emphasis on the use of science to design and build a racing yacht. Never before has the same scientific method been used to select and train a crew. Never before has such a de-emphasis been placed on the so-called "rock stars" of the sport.
To the Third Power puts the reader inside the America[superscript 3] compound, beside the testing tanks, next to the wind tunnels, and on board the fastest sailboats ever built. It provides a rare glimpse of the personalities and emotions that made up the 1992 defense of what has become yachting's "Holy Grail."

Book Description Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. VG/VG DJ, HB, Elephant Folio, 504 pgs. This massive folio of over 500 pages tops out at a robust 7 pounds so extra postal charges will be required. Signed by both the skipper Bill Koch and author on the title page: "To Cora Best Regards Bill Koch" (UL corner) "Best Wishes Paul Larsen" (below his printed name). The volume is lushly produced with scores of color photos, charts & diagrams. It could easily be called "fine" if it hadn't been dropped to the floor causing bumped lower corners to the boards, perhaps a not unexpected eventual outcome with such a behemoth of a book. The lower corner of the textblock is also bumped but all in all its not very obtrusive. Binding is quite tight and the DJ is clean and bright. Just make sure you have a sturdy coffee table to place it upon. Glass tops not advised. Signed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # 6176-1-2

Most illustrations in color. The challenge offered by the America's Cup is both ambiguous and darkly formidable. It is a comprehensive test of resources, technology, tactics, and ingenuity.
