'Kathleen Browne participated in many of the political, national and cultural movements in Ireland in the early 20th century, including the Gaelic League, Sinn Féin, the Irish Volunteers, Cumann na mBan, Cumann na Saoirse, Cumann na nGaedheal, the Army Comrades Association, the National Guard (Blueshirts), and Fine Gael. An expert in Irish history, culture and the Irish language and, as well as the local Wexford dialect of Yola, she was a "romantic nationalist" who believed in self-rule for Ireland.
