Although the methods described here are wide application, they are used here essentially in the study and depermination of opaque minerals. References are given to various techniques of examination, but only the methods depending on the use of the microscope are considered in detail. After a general description of the methods there are chapters on: theory, the microscope, qualitative and quantitative optical procedures, chemical tests, textures and parageneses in ore-mineral identification, determinative procedures and teaching methods.
