More importantly, studying deviations of the historical eclipses with the predicted occurence is a powerful tool for studying the accellerations of the Earth and Moon. "Use of ancient observations to estimate the accellerations goes back about two centuries. It is disconcerting to find, however, that much of such work . is wrong."
