A celebration of Golden State railroading, this illustrated book offers a colorful look at California's legendary railroads, the men who built and ran them, and the engineering feats that made them possible, as well as the railroad's legacy of historic tourist roads and museums. "Railroads of California" also features coverage of excursion roads and museums and modern 'real' railroad sites and operations from Donner Pass and the Barstow hub to the iconic Los Angeles Union Station. Modern color photography, historic black-and-white imagery, and a specially commissioned map make this book the ideal historical, pictorial tour by rail of one of the nation's top railroading states.

Review:

Over tha past year e have been able to review a number of books, supplied by MBI Publishing, of American railroads. All have been of a high standard with excellent phootgraphs and the same applies to the latest relese by highly prolific writer Brian Solomon. While other books we have covered look at the histories of individula railroad companies, this takes the geographical area of california and looks at the rich network of lines within the state and the services provided by various companies. it is described as ' the complete guide to historic trains and railway sites'. The early railroad history is covered in the opening chapter, followed by a history of the involvment of each of the freight and passenger operators, The book finishes with preservation and local railway museums. Index: Excellent. --Model Railway Express, June, 2009
