Book Description Soft cover. Condition: As New. No Jacket. 1st Edition. "First Published 1975 by Pan Books Ltd. . . . A Pan Original." Unread with no creases; page edges moderately age-darkened. This copy is from the Las Vegas estate of novelist Edwin Silberstang, 1930-2012, who also wrote many successful books on gambling including "Playboy's Book of Games" and "The Winner's Guide to Casino Gambling." In the late 1970s Silberstang was running a writers' workshop in San Francisco, where he encountered bibliographer Henry Toledano, author of the "Modern Library Price Guide" and the authoritative bibliography of the books of Edward Gorey, "Goreyography." This book is inscribed "To Ed, In the hope that you will learn the true art of successful writing. More Barbara Cartland titles can be found at Wordsworth's or write to Bantam Books. All the Best and Good Reading -- Henry Toledano, Oct 18 '78." We recognize the hand as Toledano's -- we have several of his books signed. While Ms. Cartland (who also authored "The Bored Bridegroom," "The Ruthless Rake," "The Dangerous Dandy,' "The Penniless Peer," etc.) certainly made a success in the trade, the advice that a serious novelist should study her historical romances (in which the course of true love is generally beset by a convenient 170 pp. worth of misunderstandings) as a model of the craft would be unusual. We checked with Mr. Silberstang's best friend and executor, who laughed and expressed the opinion that "Henry was needling Ed." Surely a unique copy. (This copy is NOT signed by the author Barbara Cartland.) 171 pp. Reduced from $125. Seller Inventory # 004899
