Greenland is a master of space opera, and in Mother of Plenty he brings his glorious Tabitha Jute series to a thrilling climax.

Tabitha Jute has matured. She still has a trace of her old self – the hard hitting, high rolling and fast living adventurer with an eye on the main chance – but Plenty has taken its toll.
When Tabitha stole the starship Plenty, she had no idea what it would come to mean. Its alien nature began to burrow into her affections, its inhabitants grew in her estimations and, in a battle she fronted across the stars, Plenty became her life-line and ultimate responsibility.
Now the rules are changing and with them come war and treachery. The associates Tabitha had onced relied upon are taking sides of their own. Tabitha is facing a crisis and this time round, Plenty might not be the saviour.

From the Back Cover:

MOTHER OF PLENTY

Tabitha Jute has matured. Near-death experiences do that to you.

When she stole the gargantuan starship Plenty she had no idea what it would come to mean – an entire alien world on her shoulders, civilisations to protect from ravages of war. Now, however, the cosmic tides have turned. Friends she once held dear are holding her captive beneath the bloated stars of Capella. As new war looms she’s become surplus to requirement.

It’s not all gloom, though. She’s been reunited with her best friend Alice, the virtual persona of her long-lost ship. And they won’t give in without a fight. Tabitha plans to hurl herself into the dying star system, risk everything to learn the final secrets of the mysterious Capellans.

For if life is no longer a game, there are no longer any rules to play by. And, mature or not, Tabitha Jute likes it that way...

About the Author:

Award winning Colin Greenland was born in Dover in 1954 and wrote his first book, about a fire-engine that laid an egg, at the age of five. Since then he has written The Hour of the Thin Ox, which the Guardian said ‘could be a classic’; and its successor, Other Voices, written to a soundtrack of the Cure, Dead Can Dance, New Order and the Cocteau Twins, which was hailed as ‘a short, sharp and moving tale with an acrid and lingering aftertaste.’ Guardian.

Unknown publication date. 2nd printing of 1998 edition:- Synopsis: Brother Melodious hung over Tabitha, smiling his starriest smile. 'You want anything, sweetheart, ask me'. 'I want my ship', said Tabitha Jute. 'Sweetheart,' said Brother Melodious. 'Be reasonable'. Some comas are hardly worth coming round from. Captive beneath the bloated twin suns of Capella, robbed of the gargantuan starship called Plenty, Captain Tabitha Jute wakes up to an unappealing future. And when the self-appointed post-human elite known as the Seraphim arrive, she's clearly surplus to requirements. There's only one thing to do. Put her best friend Alice in her pocket and hurl herself into the dying star system, to unearth the great Capellan secret. While Plenty contributes a secret or two of her own.
