About this Item
These twelve original photographs show the 1928 transformation of New York City s High Bridge, the oldest bridge in New York. Originally part of the Croton Aqueduct, this bridge traverses the Harlem River, connecting Manhattan to the Bronx. The construction in 1928 replaced the five stone arches that spanned the river with a single, 450-foot steel arch. The photos show the almost completed bridge from a variety of angles and distances. All but one of these unmounted photographs are numbered in the negative. The remaining photo is numbered by hand in pencil. They are all dated on verso in pencil with the date they were taken: May 17, or June 8, 1928. All photos measure approximately: 7 5/8 x 9 ¾ . Condition: Four of the photos have small chips at the edges or corners, some photos are bumped along edges and have minor creasing and small tears, a few photos have impressions from paperclips. Overall in good condition with excellent resolution and contrast. Seller Inventory # P00141
