72 x 180mm; traces of glue on verso. "I came to the place of my birth & cried, 'The friends of my Youth, where are they?' - And an echo answered, 'Where are they?'"; signed "S. Rogers", dated "Novr 4. 1842" and with the address "St James's Place London". Rogers gives this quotation as a note to a line in his poem "The Pleasures of Memory", sourcing it, "From an Arabic MS."
