About this Item
"What Was Done With the Rooster?" A tongue-in-cheek printed flyer promoting a mock court trial entertainment in Boston, held at the Y.M.C.A. at the corner of Boylston and Berkeley Streets. The host organization is not named. Includes an image of a rooster "before" and "after", in which he looks disheveled. The bottom of the flyer reads, "The attendance of the citizens of Boston is earnestly requested as it is important to know whether our 'poultry interests' are to be protected and if the Defendant is Guilty or Not Guilty". Interestingly, we were able to find a number of newspaper adverts for such mock court trials involving hypothetical rooster thefts, which suggests that it was a bit of a trend to host these fun evenings out in the 1890s and early 1900s. Printed flyer (9.5" by 6"), verso blank, printed in red. Very good. Toned with letter folds, a couple nicks. Paper repairs to verso. Seller Inventory # 21000630
