About this Item
RARE Original Republican Banner newspaper from Salisbury, North Carolina (Rowan County, NC). Tuesday, August 19, 1856. Includes Presidential Ticket of James Buchanan and John C. Breckenridge. Large single sheet, folded. The paper is fragile and splitting along the old fold lines. There is also some loss in sections, including text. Nonetheless it is doubtful many of these have survived over the years. Incredibly SCARCE. Also includes ads for negroes and the story of the attempted escape of a beautiful mulatto slave girl. An interesting snapshot into the culture and news of the day in this central North Carolina town. Seller Inventory # 100020
