Handwritten letter in English by Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov, dated February 1845 in St. Petersburg, sent to Henry Danby Seymour in Tiflis. Single sheet, folded, center blank, with postmarks to reverse. In a revealing letter, Vorontsov hints at the reluctance that he felt in accepting the post of viceroy of the Caucasus in the midst of the Murid War and shortly before the Dargo Campain. 'Nothing can be more flattering to my feelings, than the satisfaction that you mention as having been caused by my nomination to the Caucasus. Such a feeling however augments my responsibility both moral & physical for the arduous task imposed upon me. The manner in which it was proposed to me, rendered a refusal from my part entirely impossible.'. Seller Inventory # 003284
