This excellent profile photographic portrait of Gropper is imprinted by the well-known photography firm Pach Bros. of New York. It is signed boldly at lower left in blue pen: "Gropper". Image measures 9" x 5 3/4", affixed to a 15 3/4" x 11" mount. William Gropper (1897-1977), printmaker, painter, cartoonist, is best known for his political art which appeared in numerous left-leaning publications including: "The New Masses," "The Worker," "The Revolutionary Age," etc. He was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1974.
