About this Item
Colour map in postcard format 11x15cm, titled and labelled in Ottoman Turkish, and printed to the back with publisher's details. Very good, foxed. Not postally used. Ibrahim Cigiracan (1876-1963) launched his publishing company in Constantinople in 1896. He initially specialised in religious works, diversifying into geography (including atlases), military and history. He published this postcard map as part of a series in the late 1890s to early 1900s to illustrate the Imperial Ottoman Vilayet system. Beirut Vilayet, shown here on a scale of 1:4,000,000, had been formed from the coastal areas of Syria Vilayet in 1888 in recognition of the growing importance of its capital, Beirut. Its Sanjaks included Latakia, Tripoli, Beirut, Akka and Nablus. Seller Inventory # 4689
