About this Item
Time, Inc., New York. Vol. V, No. 3, March 1932. 148 Pp. Soft Cover, 14" X 11 1/2". Rear cover painting of Jean Harlow toasting Lucky Strike cigarettes. One of the features of the magazine s early years were cover designs by leading artists of the day. Here, Diego Rivera (1885-1957), the prominent Mexican painter whose large frescoes helped establish the Mexican Mural Movement, illustrates an issue devoted to the USSR, with detailed articles covering many aspects of the Soviet Union during its preeminent Stalinist years -- Russia: The Preface, The Soviet State, The Eternal Peasant, The Five-Year Plan, Communist Life, Karl Marx. In addition to Rivera s cover, the issue is richly illustrated with numerous full-page, color propaganda posters, paintings, and period photographs. Selecting Rivera for the cover of this issue was a pointed choice. Rivera was a dedicated Marxist, a member of the Mexican Communist Party, and deeply involved in world politics. He also hosted Russian exile Leon Trotsky and his wife at his home in Mexico City in the 1930s. CONDITION: Good+; light wear to edges; front corners lightly creased; spine faded. Toning to inside covers, otherwise the text block is very good. [See photos]. Seller Inventory # s231205a

Store Description
We guarantee the condition of every book as it's described on the AbeBooks web sites. If you're dissatisfied with your purchase (Incorrect Book/Not as Described/Damaged) or if the order wasn't delivered, you're eligible for a refund within 30 days of the estimated delivery date. As collectors ourselves, we know that sometimes a book arrives that just isn't quite what we expected, even though it was accurately described. We will refund those too, but in that case, we would like you to contact us ...
More InformationShipping costs are based on an average weight, including packaging, of 2 LB, or 0.9 KG. We usually don't charge extra if you are above that, but If your book is very heavy or special handling is required we may add an extra shipping charge. This usually occurs only for books being shipped via priority mail or internationally; the extra cost for shipping can make the difference in whether we make a profit or take a loss on the sale. We will always contact you first to get your approval for the extra charge. Sometimes shipping doesn't cost as much as we estimate -- if it's a negligible amount we just let it be but if it is substantial, we usually refund the excess shipping. We do not insure our shipments*; if you would like your package insured let us know and we will quote you the extra cost for doing so. (*Domestic items being sent by priority mail are automatically insured by the post office for up to $50.)
