The author immigrated to Canada at the age of 19; graduated in Medicine from the University of Manitoba in 1916 and then practiced medicine in Arborg, Manitoba, Canada. The late Professer Richard Beck states that Bjornson wrote "splendid original poems" (Beck, History of Icelandic Poets, pp. 239-40). Watson Kirkconnell includes one of Bjornsson's poems in Canadian Overtones. Another measure of his appeal was the reprinting of this book in Rekjavik in 1971 (source, Hjartar, p. 46). In this work (Á heiðarbrún : kvæði), the author writes primarily on Canadian subjects - e.g., Vilhjalmar Stefanson; Guttormur Guttormsson; and Canadian Unitarian clergyman R. Petursson; Canadian politician J. Thorson; Manitoba pianist S. Sigurdson; as well as toasts to New Iceland, toasts to Canada, odes to Canada, etc. Bookseller Inventory # 32276
