About this Item
NF/VG. 'Pulitzer Prize Edition' and 1st Trade edition with Wyeth illustrations. Oatmeal buckram cloth with brown lettering and design on front cover and spine, TE tinted green. Contains 14 color illustrations plus color endpapers plus pen and ink title page illustration by N.C. Wyeth. With the uncommon dust jacket that has a lovely wraparound color illustration by Wyeth that is not in the book. This precedes the Scribners black cloth edition printed in 1940 which also does not have the wraparound illustration found here. This was one of the earliest copies released with line 5 on page 196 erroneously repeating line 22 - Rawlings caught the error and had the publisher correct it in most printings. The book itself is clean and tight without prior owner marks, while the dust jacket is 98% complete with 2" x 1/2" chip across the top of the spine, a 1" x 1/2" triangular chip at the base of the spine, a 1" x 1/4" chip at the bottom of the front panel, minor edgewear and small chips at the corners of the flap folds, light sunning to spine (as is typical), but in total it is an excellent representation of the lovely Wyeth DJ. The book was first published in 1938 with illustrations by Edward Shenton, but was re-released with the Wyeth illustrations after it received the Pulitzer Prize. One of the classic and best-loved 'growing up and coming of age' stories ever written. TO SEE MORE PICTURES AND ADDITIONAL SPECIAL ITEMS, VISIT OUR BOOKSELLER's HOMEPAGE. Seller Inventory # 00447
